Interior design students from the IED visit Pepe Peñalver´s store at Barcelona and meet first hand its fabrics and applications

For the second consecutive year, Pepe Peñalver has collaborated with the Institute of European Design (IED) in Barcelona offering “in situ” classes to the Interior Design students. This time we have welcome a group of 14 second-year studients who came accompanied by their Materials & Installation Technology ´s teacher, David Ortega, who said "knowing the fabric first hand is a plus for all professionals, this way they learn how to offer them to their clients."

The class focused on "Uses of fabrics in home decoration" and was Carlos Gallent, the store manager of Pepe Peñalver Barcelona, who did the presentation. He based it mostly on showing real samples of all types of fabrics: linens, velvets, silks, wool, piques, cotton, chenille, etc.  He also explained the different finishes (smooth, prints, embroideries, mixtures, etc) and its various applications (draperies, bedspreads, curtains, cushions, etc..) according to each type of fabric.

Carlos Gallent also stressed the importance of fabrics and materials for the contract industry, due to the special fire-retardant properties that public facilities must have, as well as for outdoor use, with specific light resistance characteristics.

All students were very interested in being able to touch the fabrics and see the different textures in order to better understand everything that was explained. They asked various questions about the process that professionals follow in choicing fabrics for an interior design project, among others questions. The class ended with a tour of the store and the beautiful inside garden. They also received some brochures with information about Pepe Peñalver fabrics.
